Standings Court is a scheme of 38 contemporary extremely low-energy affordable homes, including Passivhaus, on the site of a derelict care home and social club, in Horsham.

The whole scheme integrates Lifetime Homes criteria and aims to achieve a good Building for Life score. 12 of the houses have been designed to adhere to a stringent building energy evaluation system called PassivHaus. This means ‘super-insulating’ the envelope and reducing energy usage to an absolute minimum.

All of the homes have been orientated and designed to optimize the use of solar gain as well as provide roof area suitable for the use of renewable energy systems, such as photovoltaics and solar hot water. The homes achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Levels 4 and 5 and 12 houses achieved Passivhaus compliance. The scheme was presented at an Ecobuild masterclass and a full size replica of one of the houses was built at Ecobuild. In use energy use monitoring was carried out for two years post completion to aid learning from SIPS built Passivhaus.
